Our lawyers have extensive experience in handling disputes related to intellectual property rights and the Unfair Competition Prevention Act. We frequently represent clients in patent infringement litigation and in invalidation trials related to infringement cases. Our seasoned professionals can also defend against invalidation trials related to patent, trademark and design rights. The team has amassed a great deal of dispute settlement knowledge, and is well placed to assist both Japanese and overseas clients every step of the way, from collecting evidence to advancing allegations and carrying out judiciary proceedings. We also support clients in US patent litigation and other IP litigation in other countries in collaboration with overseas Baker McKenzie offices.
Representative Experience
- Successfully acted on behalf of a Swiss manufacturer in a patent infringement case at the Japan Intellectual Property High Court.
- Defended a Japanese telecommunications equipment company in high profile patent infringement litigation before the Tokyo District Court.
- Acted on behalf of a major US cookware company in relation to design infringement litigation in Japan.
- Represented a foreign apparel manufacturer in litigation claiming damages against a manufacturer of a counterfeit product in Japan.
- Represented a foreign furniture manufacturer and its designer in litigation claiming damages against a Japanese manufacturer.
- Assisted a Japanese company with e-discovery and other preparatory litigation steps related to a copyright infringement claim in the US.
- Assisted with IP infringement litigation seeking a sales injunction and claiming damages against a seller of a product very similar in appearance to our client’s.
