International Arbitration in the Middle East: Perspectives from the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
In recent years, international arbitration has witnessed significant developments in the Middle East, and businesses are turning increasingly to arbitration as an effective form of dispute resolution in this region. These developments will be of keen interest to Japanese corporations that have invested, or are considering to invest, in the Middle East.
Please join us on May 12 as we welcome to Tokyo our partners and other colleagues from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including Dr. Habib Al Mulla, one of the region’s pre-eminent legal practitioners and currently the Chair of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre’s (DIAC) Board of Trustees. They will be here to share their perspectives and insights about international arbitration in a special seminar.
The participants in this seminar will:
- provide an overview of dispute resolution in the UAE and consider factors that may encourage parties to choose arbitration;
- introduce key arbitral institutions in the UAE, give an overview of the legal framework in which these institutions operate and their track record, and discuss important aspects of the institutional rules;
- address considerations when selecting arbitration seats in the UAE; and
- discuss the arbitration legislation enacted in 2012 in Saudi Arabia and developments since that time.
