Japan introduces further sanctions against Russia
The Japanese government introduced further sanctions against Russia and Belarus on January 27, 2023. These include the following.
Designation of additional Russian individuals and entities
The Japanese government designated an additional 22 individuals and three entities connected to the Russian Federation and 14 individuals who were judged to be directly involved in the “annexation” of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, the destabilization of eastern Ukraine and/or the “incorporation” of eastern and southern Ukraine and subjected them to the following sanctions:
• Restrictions on payments – A license is required to make a payment to a designated person or entity.
• Restrictions on capital transactions – A license is required to engage in a capital transaction — including a deposit, trust or loan contract, etc. — with a designated person or entity.
Ban on exports to designated Russian Federation entities
Effective February 3, 2023, the Japanese government will introduce a ban on exports to designated Russian Federation entities.
Ban on exports of military reinforcement-related commodity goods, etc. to the Russian Federation
Effective February 3, 2023, the Japanese government will introduce a ban on exports of military reinforcement-related commodity goods, etc. to the Russian Federation.
